Voortrekker
monument
The great grey colossus can be seen from all directions
as you near Pretoria the massive Voortrekker Monument,
built in honour of the Voortrekkers (Pioneers),
who left the Cape Colony in their thousands between
1835 and 1854. The architect was Gerard Moerdijk
and it was his ideal to design a "monument
that would stand a thousand years to describe the
history and the meaning of the Great Trek to its
descendants." The
central focus point of the Monument is the Cenotaph.
On top of the Hall of Heroes' is an arch from
where one can view the interior of the Monument.
It is through an opening in the arch that the
sun shines at twelve o'clock on 16 December each
year onto the middle of the Cenotaph and the words,
'We for thee, South Africa'. The ray of sunshine
symbolises God's blessing on the lives and endeavours
of the Voortrekkers.

Sparrebosch
One of the most impressive features along South
Africas 3000 kilometre coastline are the massive
bluffs which guard the entrance to the Knysna Lagoon,
in the heart of the fabled Garden Route. Situated
500 kilometres east of Cape Town, these sandstone
cliffs, known as the Heads, form a natural buffer
between the Indian Ocean and a wonderland of lakes,
mountains, and pristine forests.
The Heads are regarded as one of the prime addresses
in South Africa. Sparrebosch Clifftop Estate, positioned
on top of the East Head, offers some of the most
desirable residential property available in the
country today. |
 |
Sparrebosch
has been carefully planned to ensure that its unique
environment and beauty is not only preserved, but
enhanced. For more information on Sparreboschs commitment
to preserving, maintaining, and improving sensitive

Franschhoek
The fertile valley of Franschhoek
nestles between towering mountains in the heart
of the Cape Winelands. Founded in 1688 by French
Huguenots, the picturesque village of Franschhoek
has become world-famous for its warm hospitality,
superb cuisine and outstanding arts and crafts.
Bastille day on the 14th of July celebrates the
village's French Heritage with a festival of fine
French food and Wine.
The natural beauty of the landscape has been enhanced
by man. Vineyards and Fruit farms, interspersed
with clumps of pine, form a delicately interwoven
tapestry of mingling colours and shades. Amongst
the patchwork of farms in the valley are some of
South Africa's oldest and |
most
famous wine estates. The grand old Cape Dutch farmhouses
and Wine stores have watched proudly over the land
for centuries, and are still producing some of South
Africa's top wines today.
